History Timeline of Cockington Forge

10th Century - The forge is believed to be in existence.

1086 - The forge is mentioned in the Domesday book.The existing cob front wall is believed to be dated from this time.

1345 - A fire to the upper sections of the forge caused the building to be re-built to the design as it is seen today. The difference in colour of the cob layers of the rear wall is believed to be the level to which the building was re-built from.

1914 - Minature horseshoes are produced as gifts.

1971 - Last working as a forge buisness. With the necessity for farriers to operate from a mobile base, the buisness no longer proved economic.

1971 - 2000  Operated as a gift shop with forge workshop at rear. From 1995 a farrier based buisness operated from rear of premises.

2001 - Forge workshop utilised to continue to produce minature horseshoes.
